travel diary: some more norfolk

The last few days have been pretty uneventful but also kinda nice. I’ve been on loads of walks in the country (so many flowers) and this really nice beach. Except on the beach walk my whole family thought it would be freezing so we all wore jeans and it was actually so boiling I eventually had to strip and walk around in just a bralette in public eek.

My mum and I went to this little place with a few cute shops yesterday and they were really cool and kinda quirky. They sold things like old french books with pretty pictures and poetry written on little cards and vintage milk bottles. Also I had some amazing homemade lemonade and chocolate and walnut cake.

This afternoon my little cousins talked me into playing ‘extreme hide and seek’ which was hilarious because I am a boss at hide and seek and I sat in a bush for an hour because they couldn’t find me. But oh well, I used the time to make an ivy crown and turn myself into a forest nymph. It was cute.

travel diary: norfolk day 1

This day was actually hilarious. I’m on holiday with my family in Norfolk and it was supposed to be really sunny and hot so obviously we went to our favourite beach (Brancaster beach: so much sand, great ice cream). It was all good at first, we set everything up and yay but then this enormous black cloud just appeared in the space of like 3 seconds and suddenly there was a full on thunderstorm (in that picture of me dancing like a weirdo it is actually raining torrentially). The funniest thing was that, being British af, nobody moved. The whole beach just stayed there using towels and picnic chairs and anything they could find as an umbrella. In my family there were six people under one picnic blanket and four under one miniature umbrella. Needless to say we got soaked.

The storm actually cleared up so quickly and after that it was sooo hot so I just did normal beach stuff aka walking about a mile down to the sea because this beach is massive, getting thrashed at rounders by my eleven year old cousin and eating lemon ice lollies. It was all very snazzy.

Also sunburn update: my skin is the colour of a strawberry. Pain.

life update: smoothies n sunburn

I’ve had the loveliest week this week. Well I had my classics exam on Monday which could have been better but since then it’s been amazing. All this week my friends and I have been sunbathing and revising at the cathedral near our school with smoothies and many a loaf of bread. We’ve been talking about going to Paris together this summer and it’s so much fun to imagine biking around Paris and taking photos in the Marais and the art museums and baguettes and chocolat chaud… I really hope it happens.

Yesterday we had the day off so I got up at 6am to catch the bus to a really pretty river place to swim. We got there so early that there was no one there except dog walkers (and one random fisherman) so we had the best spot to lie around and listen to music. We did actually go swimming eventually  and it was freezing so of course I got pushed in completely and I have never been so cold in my life but at least it was sunny enough that I dried off quickly :// also my hair went mentally curly and I kind of really liked it.

Anyway, now I’m on holiday in Norfolk with my family and cousins because we go every year and I hope it stays really sunny because my tan is actually getting pretty good mwahaha….

Also I am sunburned af and it’s painful so plz use suncream kids and stay hydrated !!

travel diary: south of france

I went to the south of France recently on a school trip and can I just say it is one of thE loveliest and prettiest places I have ever been to.

We stayed with host families in Nice and my family were so kind and understanding of my literal inability to speak good french (oops). They had a huge apartment which literally looked like a hotel suite and they fed us so much food we could probably have survived forever without ever eating again !! (The cat, however was a lil bit grumpy).

We went to french school in the mornings which was kind of boring not gonna lie (so much subjunctive, who even knew that was a tense?) but in the afternoons we got to visit loads of different french towns like Cannes and Antibes and also Monaco. My favourite was Villefranche-sur-mer which is literally like a postcard. The houses are all warm orangey colours and the beach had clear sparkly water and to be honest I would happily live there. Also they had some great lemon sorbet which is one of my favourite things ever.

So yeah, the south of France is definitely a place I want to visit again – there’s friendly people, so many shops, reallyyy great weather (I went in March and I was wearing shorts???? What is this witchcraft???), 97 cent massive tubs of couscous and the best thing: sO MANY CUTE DOGS AND GIANT CACTI !!!! (as the self declared cactus queen I was in heaven).

Where’s your favourite place to travel??

au revoir

life update: oats n picnics

I had such a lovely weekend, even though I’m kind of drowning in revision (gotta love a levels). I spent Saturday studying with some yUMMY overnight oats – first time I ever made them and they were so good !! I also bought some presents for my friend’s birthday in my favourite shop which sells loads of Indian bangles and pretty things like that. Also I repotted some of my plants because they’re getting wayyy too big for their jars…

On Sunday I had thE cutest picnic with my friends. They are all from my old school so I haven’t actually seen them in a while and it was so good to catch up and the weather was so sunny and lovely (I’ve got such bad sunburn on my nose oops). Also we had vegan cheese swirls and hummus (how do you actually spell that???) so obviously everything was amazing. My friend’s dog even joined us and ate carrot sticks which he loves ????

I’ve got my first as exam tomorrow and I feel like I haven’t done even almost enough revision so that’s probably going to go great but oH WELL
